Install Vox Cloud, complete checkout, claim your token, and configure dictation quickly.

Quick Start

1. Install the Mac App

Download Vox Cloud for macOS. Requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later.

  1. Download the latest Vox Cloud build
  2. Open the .dmg and drag Vox Cloud to your Applications folder
  3. Launch the app from Applications
  4. If macOS warns about an unidentified developer: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway

2. Subscribe

Use the same self-serve path as the landing page to create your account.

  1. Open pricing and click Get Started
  2. Complete Stripe checkout
  3. After payment, you are redirected to /success?session_id=... to claim your token
  4. Your token is emailed to you and shown on the success page

3. Enter Your API Token

Your API token authenticates requests to Vox Cloud and is stored in Keychain.

  1. Open Vox Cloud preferences (⌘,)
  2. Paste token into Cloud Token field
  3. Click Save

4. Configure Your Hotkey

Choose a global hotkey that triggers dictation from anywhere.

  1. Open Vox Cloud preferences (⌘,)
  2. Click the Hotkey field
  3. Press your preferred combination (example: ⌥⌘V)
  4. Hotkey becomes active immediately

5. Start Dictating

Press your hotkey in any app, speak naturally, and watch polished text appear.

  1. Press hotkey to start recording
  2. Speak clearly
  3. Press hotkey again (or wait for silence) to stop
  4. Transcribed + rewritten text pastes at cursor

If Onboarding Gets Blocked

  • Checkout unavailable: self-serve access may be temporarily paused. Email hello@mistystep.io for manual provisioning help.
  • Token claim blocked: if the success page reports an already-used session, include your checkout email and session ID in your support request.

Troubleshooting

Authentication Errors

"Invalid or missing API token"

  • Verify token copy (no extra spaces)
  • Re-paste token in app preferences
  • Check account status
  • If token was regenerated, use the new one

"This checkout session has already been used"

  • Use the original token shown on first success-page load
  • If the token is lost, contact support with your checkout email and session ID

"Account usage quota exceeded"

  • Monthly limit reached
  • Upgrade or wait for reset
  • Check usage in dashboard

Microphone Permissions

Vox Cloud can't access the microphone

  • System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone
  • Enable Vox Cloud
  • Restart app after permission change
  • If Vox Cloud doesn't appear, reinstall and launch once

Service Outages

"Internal server error" or repeated timeouts

  • Check status page
  • Retry once (transient errors often clear)
  • If issue persists, include request ID when contacting support

Slow Response / High Latency

Dictation takes longer than usual

  • Check connection quality
  • Use shorter utterances
  • Retry after a short wait
  • Disable restrictive VPN/firewall if present

Text Not Pasting

Dictation completes but text doesn't appear

  • Ensure target app has focus
  • Some targets block paste (password fields, certain terminals/games)
  • Manual fallback: text is in clipboard
  • Enable Accessibility for Vox Cloud in System Settings
